- 1795 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar. BB-27, B-5. Rarity-1. Three Leaves. VF-20 (PCGS).
Warmly and originally toned in deep pearl gray, both sides also exhibit intermingled powder blue and pinkish-apricot undertones. The design elements retain plenty of bold striking detail to this classic early U.S. Mint design. Well centered on the obverse, the reverse is trivially off center to 1 o'clock with scant denticulation along the upper right border. With no significant marks and a pleasing smooth appearance, there is much to recommend this coin to the circulated type collector. With perhaps as many as 290,000 examples struck for the 1795 Flowing Hair, it is clear that these coins were intended to play a significant role in the commerce of the new nation. With 1794 dollars out of reach for most collectors and seldom available, the 1795 BB-27 variety has long filled the bill for those seeking a single attractive example to represent the brief Flowing Hair design. BB Die State II.
Provenance: From the Bimyway Collection.
