- Die State 101.3. A lovely Choice Mint State Capped Bust half dollar irrespective of date or die pairing, and even more desirable as an early 1820s strike. The detail is razor sharp to full in most areas, and even most of those that are not show appreciable boldness for the type. Luster is full, frosty and enhanced by delightful toning in iridescent golden-olive, steel-blue and pinkish-apricot. The most vivid hues are confined to the periphery on the obverse, but are more expansive on the reverse. Pleasingly smooth in hand with eye appeal to spare. A significant condition rarity that is tied for CC#2 for the 1821 O-101a die state per the listing in the Autumn 2025 revision to Stephen J. Herrman's Auction & Mail Bid Prices Realized for Bust Half Dollars: 1794-1839.
