Lot Description
1824 Matron Head Cent. N-2. Rarity-2. MS-63 BN (PCGS). CAC. This lovely example sports dominant steely-copper patina to surfaces that are smooth and hard overall. A thin crescent of deeper toning arcs through stars 4 through 9 on the obverse, and a few swirls of slightly lighter autumn-brown toning are scattered about on both sides. Satiny in texture with all major design elements sharp and the borders fully denticulated, this is a thoroughly appealing Mint State example of the semi-key 1824 Matron Head cent. Noyes Die State A/A, with minute rust pits on Liberty's neck around and below the ear and on the reverse in the field above the word ONE. Provenance: Ex Dr. James O. Sloss; Abe Kosoff's sale of the Sloss Collection, October 1959, lot 154. PCGS# 1636. NGC ID: 225D. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
