1833 Capped Bust Dime. JR-9. Rarity-2. MS-65 (NGC). Peripherally toned in sunset-gold, crimson, and emerald-green colors, the obverse and reverse share similar shades with more mint-green on the reverse. Lighter in the centers, both sides are bathed in soft, smooth, satiny luster. Overall sharply struck, and solidly graded at the assigned Gem level of preservation. One of the finest seen of this date and mint, as well as one of the finest of the entire type issue. Gems may be common on more recent coinage -- often shipped in protective coin holders, but this was not the case a generation ago -- let alone 190 years ago when this coin was struck. So, survivors at this grade level are simply a matter of chance, and this coin is absolutely one of the most stunning examples known today of the date, and certainly the variety of which this coin is the single finest JR-9 graded at NGC Provenance: From the Huber Collection. NGC Census: 21; only 6 are finer (MS-68 the finest of all known die pairings). PCGS# 4522. NGC ID: 237D. Click here for certification details from NGC.
