Lot Description
1778 Machin's Mills Halfpenny. Vlack 13-78B, W-7840. Rarity-5. EF-40 (PCGS). Deep chestnut-tan surfaces. Heavy reverse swelling from Liberty's head downward to 4 o'clock at the rim. Sharply struck though on a pitted and laminated planchet with evidence of this plain on the obverse, not so rough on the reverse. A nice example overall -- beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as is often the case in the early American coppers discipline.

Also V.13-87CT and V.13-88CT for obverse die. This obverse closely resembles that of Ryder-13, the famous and popular BRITANNIA variety in the Vermont copper series.
