Description du lot
1887 Gold Dollar. Proof-65 Cameo (NGC). In this year 1,043 Proof were struck, nearly all for sale to the jewelry trade (which had difficulty obtaining circulation strike examples). Today Gems are scarce and in high demand, especially so with the Cameo contrast between the mirror fields and frosted devices. Fully brilliant with no signs of copper toning or specks, and a pleasing coin in every way. Minute diagnostics include die polished too much before Liberty's eye with reflectivity in that area as well as below her ear, these areas should have been frosted but were polished smooth. Another unusual feature is a thin die crack connecting the top leaves in the wreath. In the date, the 7 is placed directly below the A of DOLLAR. An impressive Gem Proof that retains strong eye appeal and ample contrast.
