- 1868 Pattern Five-Cent Piece. Judd-627, Pollock-696. Rarity-7-. Copper. Plain Edge. Wide Planchet. Proof-64 BN (PCGS). Obv: similar to the circulating nickel three-cent pieces of the era but on a larger scale and with a broad rim surrounding. Rev: large laurel wreath, IN GOD WE TRUST above in tiny letters, 5 / CENTS within, CENTS on a curved line, broad rim around. The olive-gold surfaces of this pleasing pattern exhibit lively blue, rose, and sea-green iridescence in a bold light source. Choice for the grade with no blemishes or marks worthy of reporting.
