Lot Description
From the era when proof strikings were almost indistinguishable from circulation strike half-dollars, the rim must be examined in order to locate the narrow fin of metal exquisitely rising up from the edge, and used as confirmation of proof status. In addition, the entire coin displays the extraordinary sharpness one expects of a proof, right down to fully separated toes and deeply incised leaves. Only the eagle's left (observed) talon lacks perfection. Astonishing, deep ruby-grey, cobalt and denim-blue color invigorates the entire surface.
