Lot Description
Lustrous light olive and bluish steel with traces of mellowed mint color showing on the obverse, 15% remaining on the reverse. Satiny mint frost covers the fields and protected areas and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. The only marks are a small nick-like planchet chip in the middle of the cheek and another on the rim over star 10, both as struck. A small splash of darker bluish steel toning right of the T in CENT is a good identifying mark. LDS, die state b. The die lines at ME are faint or missing. Rather well struck for this variety, which nearly always displays significant weakness at the top of the ear. Our grade is MS62+, tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census. Comes with a nice provenance, and the attribution is noted on the NGC label. Pop 3; none finer at NGC in Brown for the variety.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
Ex Anderson Dupont, Stack's 9/24/54:828-Abe Kosoff-R. E. Naftzger, Jr., 1/79-Del Bland-G.
