Bert Davies Collection. Mintage: 1355. Unexpectedly deep mirrors adequately reflect illumination from the obverse fields while the reverse fields display lesser reflectivity, yet all in all, either side demonstrates very decent cameo effect. It seems that by 1880, the mint had not quite figured the process for the superb proofs seen a decade later, and the central details here are slightly out of focus. Minute but widespread wispy hairlines explain the grade.
