Lot Description
1905 Liberty Head Half Eagle. JD-1, the only known dies. Rarity-5. Proof-62 (PCGS). CAC. Fully impressed surfaces reveal modest cameo-like contrast between reflective fields and more satiny design elements. Vivid deep gold color throughout with a few scattered hairlines in the obverse fields. A scarce to rare issue in all grades, the Proof 1905 half eagle was produced to the extent of just 108 pieces. John W. Dannreuther (2018) estimates that survivors number just 60 to 75 coins. The vast majority display the all-brilliant finish that characterizes the United States Mint's Proof Liberty Head gold coinage of the 1902 to 1907 era. PCGS# 8500. NGC ID: 28DB.
