Lot Description
SPECTACULAR EVERYTHING. At first glance you would think this GEM is a modern issue commemorative, the contrast is that black and white. This stunning ultra cameo black and white gem is truly a dream coin. The deep, clear mirrors reveal only a thin scattered line or two, but no real problems or unsightly issues. Miss Liberty and the details have strong, frosty strikes! We note a tiny iridescent white toning spot near the neck by star 1. The frosted devices are flawless and the mirrors are truly deep. Like the 1896 and 1897, special care was taken when preparing the Proof dies, producing more DCAMs than the other dates. This coin is truly special. Only 735 Proofs were struck. PCGS 8, NGC 11, CAC 6. This coin has been off the market for a decade, last selling for nearly $20,000 back in 2010! The most recent example brought $14,668 in our December 2014 Regency Auction, and this coin is much nicer than that one! Worthy of a very strong bid, disregard the APRs and price guides! Cert. Number 18230714 PCGS # 97333.00
