- The name Eliasberg evokes visions of the all-time greatest collection of coins ever sold at auction! He accomplished something no one has ever done, and perhaps never will again, owning an example of EVERY DATE/MINTMARK of regularly issued federal coin (as well as extensive holdings of colonial, territorial, pattern, world, and ancient coins). The presently offered coin appeared as lot 1778 in the April 1997 sale of the Eliasberg Collection. The catalog noted its sharp strike and “Reflective satin luster with light ivory and gold toning.” Nearly two decades later, there really is not all that much to add to that except we are hard pressed to find, even using a strong glass to find any tick, line or mark worthy of disclosing. The toning pattern is accentuated by the brilliant luster and makes the well struck reliefs POP. The overall eye appeal is wonderful, displaying a great “old” collection look. PCGS 3, NGC 16. Clearly in the condition census for the O-104 variety, and among the finest graded at either service regardless of variety. The last NGC coin to sell was another Eliasberg coin, which sold in the October 2014 Gardner sale for $11,163. No PCGS MS65 has sold in auction since January 1999! A great opportunity for the advanced Bust half or type collector! PCGS # 6128 Certification Number 3318860-005 PCGS # 6128
