Lot Description

With streaks of overlying olive on a base of warm medium brown toning. The obverse impression appears tight in the virtual absence of border denticulation, although it is well centered with universally bold Choice VF detail throughout the design. The reverse presents similarly, perhaps with a bit more denticulation discernible, and retaining a legible HALF CENT on the shield and plenty of sharp definition within the eagle's plumage. Micropitting in the planchet requires magnification to discern, as does a tiny planchet flaw on the reverse between the letters AS in MASSACHUSETTS. There are no marks or other post-production blemishes of note. The die state is late with the vertical break at the left side of the final digit 8 in the date plainly evident.
