FROM THE DALE FRIEND COLLECTION, PART I. A virtually PRISTINE 1901 SUPERB PROOF nickel. Everything about this coin is top quality. Smooth, flawless surfaces show sharply struck devices and a satiny bloom throughout the devices. The fields are more lustrous than reflective, struck from a later state of the dies, where the mirror finish wore off. Classic iridescent pastel toning adds to the allure of this beauty. PCGS 55, NGC 29, CAC 27. The most recent example to sell in auction brought $2,468 in our December 2021 Regency Auction 49 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $2,700.
