With a mere 48,000 circulation strikes reportedly struck, the 1864 half dime is an understandably elusive issue in all grades. So elusive, in fact, that Al Blythe (1992) states that the official mintage figure is "highly suspect." Third party certification in today's market has allowed a better understanding of the (non)availability of the 1864 circulation strike half dime and it remains highly elusive with not many more than 200 survivors. With rare CAC approval, this richly toned Choice VF is a superior circulated survivor that belongs in a specialized collection.<p>
