Lot Description
The B-13, BB-151 is a challenging Rarity-5 die pair, the RAREST of the year with an estimated 40-75 examples extant. While not specifically listed in the Bowers 2013 list of Notable specimens, this coin ranks toward the lower end of the Condition Census, tied with the Miller-Hesselgesser, Reiver-Queller, and Smith-Bolender-Ruby coins. This is a very pleasing CHOICE XF. Smooth, problem free minor circulation on both sides. A remarkable amount of retained luster clings to the protected areas of the design elements. Handsome light dove-gray with accents of pewter and gold that are a delight to behold. Only some minor ticks and light marks from its brief stay in early federal commerce, none of them are distracting to the naked eye. Wonderful quality. Ex Superior, May 1994, lot 760; Goldberg's, September 2004, lot 905; Stack's Bowers, February 2013, lot 3036. PCGS 10, NGC 4, CAC 7. In its last auction appearance, this coin sold for $7,638--that was nearly 9 years ago. The Miller-Hesselgesser coin, also PCGS/CAC sold in the 2021 FUN auction for $6,000. This coin has a better look overall and should bring more. Worthy of a very strong bid from the early dollar specialist! Good luck. Cert. Number 21602449 PCGS # 6880
