- Description du lot
- 1787 New Jersey copper. Maris 48-g. Rarity-1. Outlined Shield. Double struck. VF-25 (PCGS).
150.3 grains. Glossy light brown with nice eye appeal and mostly smooth surfaces. A small rim clip is seen at the upper left obverse. Nicely double struck, most visible on the reverse where a second impression of a shield is seen overlapping with the bottom of the first. A bit striated on the obverse, but no major post-striking flaws are seen. Double strikes are seen frequently enough on this die marriage to suggest an ongoing issue with the feeder mechanism when this variety was struck, but major double strikes are rare. This one is particularly attractive and interesting.
Provenance: From the E Pluribus Unum Collection of New Jersey Coppers.
PCGS# 688361and 503.
