Lot Description

1874-CC Liberty Head Double Eagle. EF-40 (PCGS). Deep khaki-gold with no heavy marks present, though we note scattered small marks as befits a large gold coin that saw modest circulation. Scarcer across the board than its mintage of 115,085 pieces suggests. As the Bowers reference notes: "The 1874-CC double eagle is the earliest year for which Carson City coins are readily available in the marketplace, although it is hardly in the common category."
