Losbeschreibung: Ex Simpson Collection, as noted on the insert. This GLORIOUS SUPERB GEM Proof 1863 is an old friend, most recently being sold in our July 2020 sale of the BigMo Civil War Collection. Earlier, we had offered it in our February 2014 Regency Auction. Think about that: this coin graced both the BOB SIMPSON Collection and the all time greatest Civil War Collection--BigMo! This marvelous SUPERB GEM that is tied for FINEST graded in the non-CAM designation, and regardless of designation, no example has graded numerically higher than this piece. Icy, deep, crystal clear, clean, and highly reflective mirrors beam from all over. Only a well hidden planchet mark keeps this coin from a full PR67 designation. Both sides are evenly covered by a gorgeous original mix of royal blue, magenta, pale gold colors. Miss Liberty and the details are frosty and have sharp strikes. The eye appeal is tremendous! Only 460 Proofs were struck. PCGS 13, NGC 12, CAC 4. There are 3 graded PR66+ at the very TOP of the POP. This spectacular coin brought a WORLD RECORD $21,150 in February 2014 and $19,388 in July 2020.
