Lot Description

A second double struck example of this Miller number in the present sale, and an even more dramatic piece with the second impression only slightly off center. The result is a clutter of two sets of design elements which is most pronounced at the effigy and seated figure in the centers. Portions of two sets of peripheral lettering are also seen on the obverse, on the reverse only the digits 787 in the date from one strike are clear. Handsome chocolate brown patina overall with glints of steely-copper here and there, the surfaces are a bit rough overall, largely as made, with no significant post-production blemishes.
