Sharply defined apart from a touch of softness to the high points of Liberty's portrait, this endearing piece also offers warm medium gold patina and a pleasing satin texture. This is a particularly interesting variety of Moffat & Co.'s second year 1850 $5 gold issue, the eagle on the reverse unusually large with a crude design. Conditionally rare at the present level of preservation, this significant piece is sure to have no difficulty finding its way into a specialized collection of pioneer gold. PCGS# 10243. NGC ID: ANJ6.
