Lot Description

Tompkins Die Stage 2/3. A scarce and conditionally challenged die pairing for the issue, the Condition Census for the 1805 O-109 attribution ranges in grade from EF-40 through MS-62. This PCGS-certified VF example exhibits a base of pearl gray patina to both sides with warmer steel-olive overtones enlivening the obverse periphery and much of the reverse. Faint underlying glossiness is noted for accuracy, but there are no sizeable or otherwise noteworthy marks. Isolated softness to the strike is typical of the type, but all major design elements are bold despite overall moderate wear.
