This year's mintage of 36,209 quarter eagles represents a significant increase in production at the Dahlonega Mint. Indeed, the 1843-D has the highest mintage in this mintmarked gold series up to that time and it is the most readily obtainable Dahlonega Mint quarter eagle in today's market. The offered coin in boldly defined and warmly patinated PCGS EF-40 will appeal to both mintmarked type collectors and Southern gold enthusiasts.
