- 1869 Gold Dollar. MS-66 (PCGS). CAC.
Outstanding medium gold surfaces really need to be seen to be fully appreciated. Both sides are virtually pristine, the texture satiny and smooth to allow ready appreciation of a razor sharp strike from the dies. The 1869 is a low mintage gold dollar with a press run of just 5,900 circulation strikes. Most survivors are Mint State, indicative of the fact that this denomination did not circulate widely after the onset of the Civil War. The 1869 is scarcer than most later date issues of this type, and at the premium Gem grade level the present example is nothing short of rare from a condition standpoint.
