Lot Description

As with all early San Francisco Mint gold issues, the 1858-S dollar suffered a high rate of attrition through circulation. A low mintage of 10,000 coins and a lack of contemporary numismatic demand further explains why so few Mint State examples have come down to the present day. Offered here is a desirable Choice AU alternative, a coin that is still scarce in its own right. It is boldly defined overall with subtle rose and silvery highlights to honey-gold color. Softly lustrous for the grade with a pleasing appearance.
