- 1 graded MS-64+ PL, zero higher at PCGS, making this the "finest known" with a prooflike designation at PCGS. Attribution as a commercial striking instead of a proof requires the observer to find remnants of a previously punched "2" in the date area, engraved far too high compared to the other numerals. Other than that, it would be very easy to mistake this remarkable coin as a full cameo proof, given the completely reflective fields and strongly frosted motifs. As with the extremely low mintage circulation-strike gold dollars of the same era, tiny emissions placed minimal stress on fresh dies, allowing a fair proportion of examples to emerge with fully reflective fields. This is a superbly detailed high-end example with prodigious eye-appeal, showing some warm copper-gold splashes on either side, and no post-mint disturbances to speak of.
