Breen Die State IV. Deep steely olive-copper patina blankets both sides of this universally bold Choice VF example. Centering is good, the wear moderate, yet even. There are no significant marks to generally smooth-looking surfaces, although close inspection with a loupe reveals a trace of microroughness in the fields and protected areas that is most pronounced at the digit 1 in the denominator of the fraction on the reverse. This conditionally challenged Sheldon number is comprised of coins in EAC grades of VF25 to EF45 in the 2000 Bland census. The present example is not included therein, and it is also absent from the Noyes census, but it still must be counted among the better examples of the variety available to advanced early copper enthusiasts.
