Lot Description

1859-D Gold Dollar. Winter 11-N. AU-58 (PCGS). Much scarcer than the 1849-D in an absolute sense, the 1859-D gold dollar is also rarer than the 1851-D in high grades (read: AU and Mint State). This minimally circulated survivor retains generally bold definition despite characteristic bluntness of strike in isolated areas of the design. Soft green-gold and yellow-gold color shows on both sides, the surfaces are exceptionally smooth and essentially without marks or distractions. A highly desirable Dahlonega Mint coin. PCGS# 7553.
