- 1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 46-e, W-5250. Rarity-1. Outlined Shield, Clashed Die. AU-50 (PCGS).
150.3 grains. Frosty medium brown and pale olive over lustrous fields. A bit of thin patina is noted on a few high points, but the overall visual appeal is excellent. The centering is good, and no notable defects are found with a glass. The usual die clashes are present and bold, lending this variety an unusual aesthetic appeal that makes it popular for many type collectors.
Provenance: From the E Pluribus Unum Collection. Earlier from the F.C.C. Boyd and John J. Ford, Jr. collections; our (Bowers and Merena's) sale of the Chris Schenkel Collection, November 1990, lot 5462.
PCGS# 766317.
