1788 New Jersey Copper. Horse's Head Facing Right. W-5535, Maris 77-dd. URS-11. Running Fox. VF-25 (PCGS). This is a most interesting piece, and not only because it is an example of the popular Running Fox <em>Guide Book </em>variety of the 1788 New Jersey Copper. There are bold clashmarks (as struck) on both sides, which features largely explain isolated softness strike here and there around the centers. The clashmarks are off center, as evidenced by impressions made from denticles in the center of the obverse. Otherwise well defined at the VF grade level, with even steel-brown patina and no significant post-production detractions.
