- 1850-C Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter-4. Weak C. EF-45 (PCGS). CAC.
This handsome honey-gold example is attractively original with glints of satin luster remaining. The detail is generally bold to sharp, but as designated by PCGS this is a Weak C example (Winter-4) with the mintmark faint, although still partially discernible at most viewing angles. The mintmark is more or less faint on all known examples of this variety, in fact, since the C was lightly punched into the reverse die. Here is a scarce and desirable Choice EF example of this more available issue in the Charlotte Mint half eagle series.
Provenance: From the Fairmont Collection.
PCGS# 98244.
