Lot Description
1808 Draped Bust Half Cent. C-3. Rarity-1. MS-63 BN (PCGS). The reported half cent mintage for calendar year 1808 is 400,000 coins which was achieved in two deliveries: late March: 64,000 coins and June 30: 336,000 coins. Many of the coins delivered that year were from 1807-dated dies, so the exact mintage from 1808-dated dies is unknown. This is the more plentiful Normal Date variety which is limited to a single die marriage; the other two varieties of 1808 are both overdates. A faint die crack extends through the tops of LIBERTY, although flowlines from the late die state almost obliterate that crack. The obverse of this Select Mint State example has near-full border dentilation. This lovely example is exceptionally well defined with a lustrous tan and brown obverse that is contrasted with a more even green-brown reverse. PCGS Population: 5 in 63 BN; only 3 finer. PCGS# 1107. NGC ID: 26Y2. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
