Lot Description
A CHOICE Goloid Metric Dollar Pattern featuring George Morgan's rarely used head of Liberty with her hair tied up in a bun with a ribbon inscribed LIBERTY. The reverse is the standard Goloid reverse with the composition in a beaded ring in the center, surrounded by an agricultural wreath,. GLORIA EST DEO in a cartouche above. This is a Low Rarity-7 pattern with 7-12 estimated in all grades. The Goloid Metric Dollar type was part of the proposal for an international coinage that could easily exchange in Europe, and is directly related to the ever popular $4 Stellas and ultra rare $20 Quintuple Stellas. The present coin is delicately toned with iridescent pastel hues over watery mirrored fields. Sharply struck up and crisply rendered devices stand out nicely. The eye appeal is decent for the type and grade. PCGS 3, NGC 1. No PCGS-graded PR63 has ever sold in auction. The PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $9,000 and back in August 2011 a PCGS PR64 sold for $14,950. We think this coin will attract very strong bidding from the pattern specialist. Good luck. Cert. Number 28908004 PCGS # 62000
