Lot Description

Nicholas Jackson Collection. Overton-106a (R.4), "single leaf". The prime die state, called the "comet obverse", has the same die-crack fleeing off right from the top of the cap, while lapping of the reverse effaced part of the upper olive branch and resulted in the "single leaf" nomenclature. Generous honey-gold toning layers over virtually the entire obverse except for a narrow, subtle sliver of toning around portions of the obverse and a splash of grey across the eagle's neck. Both sides appear rather sharp despite the advanced age of the dies, with grade consideration perhaps due in part to dashes of greyish toning here and there.
