Lot Description
Visually impressive and wonderfully preserved near GEM quality example of this first year of the popular Standing Liberty quarter. Only 52,000 examples were struck in December 1916. Regardless of grade, these are always highly sought, especially in Mint State grades. This MS64+ has a full, booming luster on the obverse that rolls uninterrupted on the smooth, problem free surfaces. Overall the details are nicely struck up, but there is some minor softness on the brads on the shield and on Liberty's hairline. A few traces of light contact might be seen with a strong glass, but they are not detracting from the outstanding overall visual allure. PCGS 1, NGC 4. The only MS64+ to ever sell was NGC-graded and realized $15,275 back in February 2015. More recently a CAC MS64 sold for $20,400 in December 2020. The MS64+ Collectors Universe value is $20,000. We expect strong bidding for this important "blue chip" 20th century KEY date. Cert. Number 40324571 PCGS # 5704.00
