This richly and originally toned Gem Proof exhibits outlines of reddish-russet to the design elements, warmer golden-olive elsewhere. Direct lighting reveals more uniform, even more vivid undertones of golden-olive and champagne-pink - lovely. The strike is full, and the finish is appreciably reflective. From a mintage of 700 Proofs, this being one of just two issues of the brief Arrows, Motto Liberty Seated quarter type of 1873 to 1874. Survivors in all grades are at very least scarce from a market availability standpoint, while at the Gem grade level, as here, the Proof 1874 is very scarce by any standard.
