Losbeschreibung
1801 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-213, B-3. Rarity-3. AU-55 (PCGS). Classic gunmetal-blue and gray toning on both sides of this high grade early dollar. The strike is sharp and the surfaces are free of any detracting marks. The obverse die was slightly misaligned from the reverse, so the left denticles are missing on the former side, but extra long and extended before Liberty's portrait. This reverse die is interesting as all the Ts in the legend are missing their lower right serif, as it had broken off the letter punch. The obverse does have the serif in LIBERTY so it must have been engraved at a different time. This broken T punch shows up again in 1802 on the BB-241 variety. This BB-213 is certainly in the top 10 for the variety, and sure to see spirited bidding among early dollar enthusiasts, as such. BB Die State I. Provenance: From the Legacy Collection. Earlier from our sale of the Freedom Collection, August 2013 Chicago ANA Auction, lot 4346. PCGS# 40085. NGC ID: 24XA. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
