Lot Description
1876 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. WB-102. Type II Reverse. MS-65 (PCGS). CAC. Luxurious reddish-orange and powder blue iridescence over much of the obverse is confined to a thin halo around the reverse periphery. Intensely lustrous throughout with pinpoint striking detail to further tempt the quality conscious collector. This is a popular issue for high grade type purposes, the 1876 produced in the United States' Centennial year and sporting a generous mintage of 8.4 million pieces that virtually guaranteed that a good number of Mint State examples would survive. Yet even so, few that have come down to the present day are smooth enough to qualify for a premium Gem grade, as here. Provenance: From the Collection of James Allaire Millholland, 1842-1911. PCGS Population: 21; 14 finer (MS-67 finest). CAC Population: 8; 5. To view all items from the Collection of James Allaire Millholland, 1842-1911 click here.
