Lot Description
1854 Pattern Braided Hair. Cent. Judd-161, Pollock-187. Rarity-4. Bronze. Plain Edge. Proof-65 RB (NGC). Obverse of the style of the circulating large cents of the date but sans stars, reverse with tiny continuous wreath at center, ONE / CENT within, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around. Brassy red-brown surfaces recovering from an old cleaning, as are nearly allof the copper patterns seen in today's marketplace, at least by the present writer (FVV); the evidence is plainest on the obverse. A bold array of neon blue and violet engages both sides. A popular pattern issue that has been adopted by large cent enthusiasts, almost since "day one." PCGS# 11664.
