1883 Nickel Three-Cent Piece. MS-64 (PCGS). Frosty silver gray surfaces exhibit warm champagne highlights and lively mint luster. This date represents one of those rare instances in numismatics where the <em>Proofs </em>of the date (6,609 pieces) outnumber the <em>circulation strikes </em>of the date -- in this instance, just 4,000 pieces were struck for intended circulation.
