Lot Description
Undated (Possibly Circa 1793) Washington Success Medal. Large Size. Baker-265, W-10900. URS-7. Brass. Reeded Edge. MS-63 (PCGS). This is the first die, the bridge of Washington's nose curved slightly inward. A rare early impression struck from a perfect obverse, the often seen die crack through the top of the portrait is not present. Satiny and vibrant, both sides exhibit mottled pinkish-rose iridescence to dominant bright-gold color. An otherwise sharp strike comes up short only in the center of the reverse, as typically seen for the type. A faint trace of the original silvering is still discernible in the left obverse field of this high quality and visually appealing survivor.
