Lot Description
1860-C Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter-1. AU-53 (PCGS). This date is always found with indistinct details on the eagle, not from a lack of striking pressure, but rather from reuse of a faulty reverse die that caused the same problem in 1859. This is a bright, khaki-gold piece that is otherwise well struck with a generous amount of surviving luster. Abrasions are numerous, but consistently small and unobtrusive. With the third lowest mintage among Charlotte Half Eagles (a mere 14,813 pieces), the 1860-C has always been a favorite of Southern gold collectors. PCGS Population: 14 in 53, 41 finer. PCGS# 8285. NGC ID: 25VG. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
