1867 Pattern Five-Cent Piece. Judd-571, Pollock-639. Rarity-7-. Copper. Plain Edge. Proof-65 BN (PCGS). Obverse: large head of Liberty left after the style of the circulating nickel three-cents pieces of the era, point of tiara past final S of STATES, a star on the tiara, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around, date below. Reverse: laurel wreath, 5 / CENTS within, small IN GOD WE TRUST above. Fiery deep orange mingles with varied crimson and blue iridescence throughout. The Bass Collection specimen. A visually enchanting Gem Proof example of a rare Judd variety with amply satisfying eye appeal and solid physical character. None graded finer by PCGS in any color designation. Choice for the grade.
