- 1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 56-n, W-5310. Rarity-1. Camel Head--Overstruck on a Connecticut Copper--VF-30 (PCGS).
136.3 grains. A lovely mid-grade example of a Camel Head New Jersey. Struck on a high quality Connecticut copper planchet of good metal and nice broad diameter. The New Jersey dies were well struck and the detail bold throughout save for a bit of the date where some Connecticut undertype won out. Glossy and an ideal shade of chocolate-brown. A few light contact marks but no trace of roughness. A premium piece.
Provenance: From the Sydney F. Martin Collection. Earlier ex American Heritage Minting, September 2000.
