Lot Description

1811/09 Capped Bust Dime. JR-1, the only known dies. Rarity-3. AU-55 (PCGS). A handsome piece with bold, vivid toning in steel-gray, cobalt blue, salmon-pink and olive-gray. Nicely centered in strike with exceptionally sharp detail remaining throughout the design. Only marginally less scarce than the first year 1809, the 1811/09 is among the more elusive issues of the Capped Bust dime type with only 250 to 350 coins believed extant in all grades. Perhaps needless to write, the majority of these are heavily worn and otherwise less well preserved than the conditionally rare Choice AU coin offered here. PCGS# 4487. NGC ID: 236V.
