1862 Pattern Liberty Eagle. Judd-298, Pollock-358. Rarity-6-. Copper. Reeded Edge. Proof-64 BN (PCGS). From the regular-issue obverse die of the date and denomination, reverse die&nbsp;similar&nbsp;but with GOD OUR TRUST above the eagle.&nbsp;Rich copper tobacco brown patina with outlines of reddish-gray toning to the devices. This piece is sharply struck throughout and reveals no blemishes that would seem to preclude a full Gem grade. The <em>uspatterns.com </em>website notes: "These were struck from two different obverse dies differing in date placement.&nbsp;W. Elliot Woodward mentions in his May 1863 sale catalog that '25 sets' were produced. He also mentions in his October 1880 Haines sale catalog of the peddling of these sets by Mint officials.
