Lot Description

1859 Liberty Seated Dime. MS-63 (NGC). CAC. OH. This is a richly and originally toned specimen layered in bold charcoal-copper, reddish-rose and salmon pink. The 1859 has a reported mintage of 800 pieces in this format. Given that numismatics was in its infancy in the United States of the late 1850s, it should come as no surprise to read that several hundred examples were placed into circulation when they failed to sell to contemporary collectors.
