- 1878 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. WB-Unlisted. Type I Reverse. Proof-64 (PCGS).
Target-toned in rich midnight blue, copper-rose and sandy-silver, this handsome specimen also sports razor sharp striking detail and a brightly mirrored finish. The open lower bud on the branch confirms our Type I Reverse hub attribution for this coin, although Randy Wiley and Bill Bugert (The Complete Guide to Liberty Seated Half Dollars, 1993) state of the 1878 Philadelphia Mint issue: "All seen to date have the Tail Hub Variety 2." Sure to catch the eye of specialists in this series.
Provenance: From the E. Horatio Morgan Collection.
PCGS# 6439. NGC ID: 27UD.
