Lot Description

While 686,750 double eagles fell off the dies at the westernmost mint in 1869, these rapidly disappeared into circulation, making this date somewhat scarcer than the mintage might suggest. This is a pleasing AU example with ample luster clinging to the lightly worn surfaces. Devoid of serious marks, lines, or ticks of any kind that distract from the eye appeal. PCGS 187, NGC 175, CAC 8. No PCGS AU50 CAC has sold since 2011. The current Collectors Universe value is $2,750 and the CAC CPG value is $2,810.
